What is the difference between an IP-Pbx telephone system and a normal PBX? So i am looking for a telphone system for my small sized company. We need something that provides us one phone number but in case the line is busy another staff member can get the diverted call even though he/she is sitting in a completely seperate country. What are the differences between IP-PBX and normal PBX systems. We have roughly 14 employees so would need around that many phone lines of similar numbers. Thank you. P:s could you also link some product if u have in mind thanks.
Can someone help me understand how an IP-PBX works? I understand that an IP-PBX has an RJ45 port to connect it to the Internet, and several RJ11 ports to connect to telephones. But if it is an IP-PBX, why does it have RJ11 ports for the telephones? Why doesn't an IP-PBX have RJ45 ports for IP phones? How would you connect an IP phone from Cisco, for example, to an IP-PBX?
Difference between Softswitch and IP PBX? There is lot of difference between the normal TDM PSTN switch and the normal PBX. But the difference between IP PBX and the softswitch is very narrow.. Other than the subscriber capacity and the call handling capacity what are the main difference between softswitch and a IP PBX? Is IP PBX can be connected to a third party application server? Please give me some inputs....

WILL THAT WORK???
Connecting 2 IP PBX together? I want to upgrade my system from 2 FXS to 4 FXS to allow more than 2 people to make outside calls at the same time. Do I really have to buy a 4 FXS ports IP PBX system or can I just buy a second 2 FXS system and connect both to my LAN Switch? Is this possible? You don't have to explain to me how it is done, I'll have a professional install it. You can answer by yes it is possible or no it is not. I already have 4 PSTN lines. I just need to know what equipments to buy @Colinc: We have 15+VOIP extensions for multiple people around the office. We need to withstand higher call volume. and I checked into buying a 4 FXS ports PBX to replace the one we currently have. It seems to me that going with an additional 2 FXS is cheaper but I do not know it it is possible to connect the 2.
Can someone please help me to understand this IP-PBX setup? An organization that I belong to has an IP-PBX. They have 3 analog phones connected to it. They have an Ethernet connection going from the PBX to a cable modem, which then goes to the cable company. All of the cables that go to the PBX are labeled. But I noticed that 2 cables not going to any phones were labeled with phone numbers (each cable carrying its own number; phone numbers that are used to call the organization from outside). I assume that those cables are getting a dial tone from the phone company, not the cable provider. From what I see, it appears that the PBX has an Internet connection from the cable company, but it is getting the 2 phone numbers from the phone company. How did they set this up? Why would they choose this setup? What are the advantages of having this kind of setup? Please explain this to me in as much detail as possible.
Can someone help me out with my friend's IP-PBX? An organization that I belong to has an IP-PBX with VoIP service, along with 3 analog telephones connected to it, using RJ11 connectors. They have 2 phone numbers going to the PBX. When the PBX was first installed, it was working okay for a few months. But after a while, callers that would call the organization would get a busy signal. Sometimes just 1 of the 2 phone numbers would have a busy signal, but most of the time, both phone numbers would be busy. But callers inside the organization are always able to dial out, whether the callers calling the organization get a busy signal, or not. We tried to fix this problem by unplugging the power cord from the PBX for about 10 seconds. When we plugged it back in, callers would not get a busy signal anymore. But after a few days, callers start getting a busy signal again, and the PBX has to be unplugged, and plugged back in again. This happens just about every week. So in other words, callers inside the organization are always able to dial out, but callers calling the organization usually get a busy signal, even when none of the telephones are off the hook. I am not sure about the PBX's brand or model number. Can anyone please give me any ideas on what can be done to correct the problem that my organization is having? Could it be a cabling issue?

Which is the best pbx system? Hi all I really need your help to choose a very good pbx system. I will need it for a small office (16 extensions) would be enough. I would also like to know what is the difference between ip pbx and pbx. Could you please recommend a pbx system that is wireless using a router or something without any wires. Thanks anyway :)
Can I use IP phones on my internal network without VOIP service? I need a pbx style phone system in my business but I dont have the funds for a traditional system. I have a wired/wireless ethernet system already installed throughout my business and was wondering if there was a way to use IP phones through the network internally without an outside VOIP service provider?

can a phone line to a (non voip) pbx be substituted with a voip line? Just wondering if I could use the voip line coming from my naked dsl modem, to plug in my pbx system instead of using a direct phone line. Essentially the info pumped through the voip line from the modem is the same as a regular phone line right? so is this a work around to upgrading my existing functional pbx with an ip pbx? at home i have naked dsl and i have an dsl voip modem/router which has a voip line built in. Basically u enter all the sip details into the modem then plug a regular phone into the voip plug hole in the modem. will a pbx work through this phone port too?
How can I redirect traffic to different Internet ISP by data traffic type? Here is my question.... I have an IP-PBX in my network, along with a lot of computers also and we are all connected to internet. Our ISP has a very bad quality for VoIP services, so we want to buy a dedicated E1 for only VoIP Services... the problem is that we need to merge 2 networks so outgoing calls from IP-PBX go thru the E1 and internet data such as surfing and stuff, thru the normal ISP. How can I do this? Thank you for your help.
XP ICS and IP phone problem? I am trying to hook up a IP phone at a remote location, the only source of internet at the location is a wireless USB card. What I am trying to do is share the USB wireless card's connection using XP's internet connection sharing and a crossover cable on a LAN card. This works OK, the phone has access to the internet and reports to the PBX system at the remote location fine. The problem is that ICS changes the IP and port numbers (it usually appends "59" to each, so the PBX sees an IP address of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx59:xxxx59) Obviously that is not possible so the PBX refuses the registration and the phone gets no connection. I've tried forwarding the appropriate ports in the "settings" connection of the wireless properties menu but ICS is still appending numbers to the IP and port numbers. I believe this system would work fine if ICS would stop adding/altering information. Is there any way to keep ICS from changing port/ip addresses? If not are there any other good third party programs that will let me share a internet connection between a computer and a "dumb" OS-less device? Thanks! ICS is configured fine, the phone has DCHP support and picks a valid IP on the network fine (192.168.0.xxx) The problem is that ICS adds "59" to the IP and port numbers when the phone tries to connect to the PBX system through certain ports (the SIP registration port, 5060 to be exact.) Telling the host computer to forward the SIP port directly to the phone does not work. The logs from the phone show that it is connecting just fine however the IP and port numbers are invalid so the phone does not complete the registration. This is a problem with ICS as the phone works on the same network just fine if It is wired directly to the router. ICS is adding information for some reason, either a firewall (I have all firewalls turned off) or some other security measure. Is it possible to turn those features off? There are no settings to do so in any GUI menus so I am assuming that there is a configuration file that needs to be modified I just don't know where to look. I guess I'm not allowed to answer my own question? The solution was using a network bridge instead of ICS. A computer with a wireless card can act as a wireless bridge assuming it has a wired LAN card. Both network adapters must be forced into compatibility (or promiscuous) mode. This is explained in detail here... http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6879&sid= More about wireless bridges... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_bridge
Cisco 7960 IP Phone (w/ Sip Firmware) Won't Work? Cisco VG200 w/ 2VIC 2FX with a Voice Gateway 200 and no PBX just Call Manager Express on 2621XM.? I know this sounds kind of boring and all not having a PBX (down the road) but this is for simple home use. I have a Cisco 2621XM w/ Call Manager Express, a Voice Gateway 200 w a 2 VIC 2FX card, and a 7906G VOIP IP Phone. All I (boringly) want to do is plug in a phone line into the VG200, run it through the 2621 w/ Call Manager Express, and ring ring. Sounds simple, over complicated for a basic phone line but there is a bit more to it down the road. Is this relatively easy to do? Also, how is licensing handled? Always the fun buster... Thanks!
Should I be able to use a Cisco VG200 w/ 2vic for a regular phone line to IP phone? Though i don't have a real life PBX as it's unrealistic for home use, nor multiple phone lines, will the voice gateway allow me to use an IP phone/ create other extension to other phones (in theory).. dial 9 our.. get the drift. I can't afford the Cisco CallManager hardware in my dreams but I know there are IOS Command line that can do similar. I'm hoping the VG200 will allow all this without the need for Asterik or even work in conjunction. Though I'd like to go the CCVP way of business... All I want is to hook up a phone line in the VIC on the Voice Gateway then do the proper configs in between (if possible as my question poses) to get a dial-tone on a Cisco IP phone then be using VOIP. Thanks for your help! =) Oh yea, bonus question, are there a Windows version of CallManager or is that pretty much just hardware?
computer networking question? Skype, the popular Internet telephony service, provides a user with what type of interface? a) IP phone b) Analog telephone c) IP-PBX d) Softphone
SIP Trunk configuration problem? I configured an IP PBX to pass my sip trunk calls to a remote sip server. But when i place a call via the ip pbx, it could not go through but give an error - status code - 488 Not Acceptable here. I noticed from the trace that the sip address always picks the local ip address of my ip pbx, i.e sip from address: <sip:1001@192.168.1.20:5060>, sip to address: <sip:0091604xxxxxxx@192.168.1.20:5060> This 192.168.1.20 (dhcp) is my local pbx ip address. But when i bypass the local pbx by configuring my ip phone to connect to the remote sip server, the call was successful. This is the sip to address of the successful call: sip from address: <sip:naatnigltd@66.x.x.x:5060> sip to address: <sip:0091604xxxxxxx@66.x.x.x:5060 Note: naatnigltd is my account name with my sip trunk provider and 66.x.x.x is the public ip address of the sip server. I bypass my local ip pbx in the case above for the call to be successful. My ip pbx is connected to the internet via dhcp from a router. Pls i need help! My pbx is connected to a wifi router, and the router is connected to the internet via dial up PPPoE internet connection. The LAN side of the wifi router is configured as dhcp server to assign ip dynamically to my pbx, and the WAN side of the router also has dynamically assigned ip address from my internet provider.

What should I look for when eliminating static on a VoIP line? A small organization that I belong to has VoIP service, with 2 phone numbers. The VoIP service connects to a Motorola cable modem, and the modem connects to a Linksys router. Then, they connected an IP-PBX to that Linksys router. Then, all 3 of their phones connect to the IP-PBX with RJ11 connectors. But you can hear a lot of static on every phone. I volunteered to fix the problem. What specific things should I look for with the cabling or the configuration of the PBX, when fixing this problem? Please give me as much detail as possible. I do not know the model number of the PBX.
Telecom options for business? What kind of equipment is needed/what is involved in ordering any of these services for my growing sm-med size business? Integrated Voice & Data T-1, PRI & SIP Termination, or Hosted IP PBX. I understand that Hosted IP PBX is VOIP, correct? So I would not need to purchase a PBX/switch. But what equipment is still required on my end that the circuit connects to in order to bring the service into my office? Same with the others. Feel free to use as plain and simple terminology as possible. Technology is not my forte.
What is an Asterisk server? I'm trying to understand what a PBX or Asterisk server is. I don't understand the explanations I've found on websites via Google or wikipedia because they use too many technology words I'm unfamiliar with (eg. voip gateways, IP-PBX, conference servers etc...) Basically, I told a friend that I have a small business with 10 freelance programmers. It would be great if my business had one phone number like 111-222-3333, and each freelancer can have an extension that routes to their cell phone. That way, freelancers never have to expose their personal phone number to the clients. My friend told me to look into setting up an Asterisks server. But in my research, I can't tell if Asterisks will do what I need. Can someone explain to me, as if I were 12 years old, what an Asterisk is and whether it will do what I need? Are there other "cool" things an Asterisk server can do for my business?
Extended Local Calling Service? My company used to have att as the phone T-1 provider with an Avaya Definity phone switch. Our office is in Dallas and we could call ANY phone number in the 972 or 214 area code and it was treated as a Local Call (we did NOT have to dial a "1"). We switched to a different T-1 provider for our PRI channels (and to an Avaya IP Office phone pbx) and now there are many phone exchanges within 972 that we have to use a "1" (long distance) to dial. We did NOT have a metro line before and we dont have one now. What happened? Is there some other sort of service that we had before that made these calls local ???
Russian translate helps? Could you help me to translate this text, google translate does not handle it :) "After VoIP reset process all IP parameters of PBX return to factory default settings." Notes: PBX = АТС(Автоматическая телефонная станция)
Compare VoIP Phone systems? What are the Pros and Cons between 3CX IP phone system and other PBX phone system? I want to know the technical requirements, knowledge and how it works.

Interesting VoIP problem.? I've unwillingly become the network admin/engineer for a local company. I did all of the cabling in their new office, built the patch panels, etc. I built the entire network from scratch. They are using a remote VoIP service for their PBX. An EdgeWater box is functioning as the gateway for the VoIP network. It is connected to a standard Westell DSL modem with a static IP. Normal data connections are run through a separate DSL line, on a separate network. No problems currently. A few of the phones started acting up recently, one worse than the rest. They are randomly dialing large numbers of 8's, going blank, and seemingly returning to normal. At times, they will not make or receive calls. Right now, the worst offender is stuck "OBTAINING IP" after I reset it to factory. I found out that just before this started, they were building a few walls in their warehouse. One of the workers apparently severed all power to the switch and server closet while attempting to put in a window. I have checked out everything in the switch closet. All hardware is functioning correctly. There are no problems with any of the cabling. Everything is now on battery backups with clean power. The switch that runs the VoIP phones was on a battery backup before the power interruption. No surge there. I'm about to replace one of the phones with a working phone from my office, just to see if that fixes it. Ideas on what this could be? They're Cisco 7940Gs.
Which solution recommendations for soletrader VoIP Italy-UK? I am starting my own business in Italy, which will rely heavility on me being able to call my UK customers cheaply (landline and mobile), and them being able to call me on a UK number (and also divert calls to my mobile/onto and over my IP when required). I'd also like that when customers call me, they will hear a UK ring tone and not the EU one. I have looked into SKYPE, yet I am wary based on reports of unreliable call connections? I'm also unsure of whether I can warrant a PBX type system when I will be a soletrader, but perhaps they can be set up cheaply? Any solution recommendations gratefully recieved... Many thanks Thomas

I am looking for a softswitch, I have one static IP. I need to configure it a small soft switch? I've heard there are some free softswitch's, but i really don't know which one it is, I need only 50 concurrent calls to work via IP - IP. Basically my requirement, I need to get DID from a DID vendor like DIDx, and then assign DID to a PBX or a VOIP (SIP Device) and forward it a SIP Account. So i am looking for a equipment like, DID's assigned by DIDx and forward it to SIP accounts or SIP portals. Please let me know, if there is any solution for that.

Cisco Inexpensive VOIP solution for newbs? I'm getting a Cisco 1701 which I know supports VOIP and considering a 2621XM to learn. I know both can do PBX (am I right?). I'd like to use a VOIP phone (or two) and use a land line. Also, I plan to set up a point to point connection to peer wanting to do similar. If I wanted to set up voice over land line what do I need to do, and cheaper method is best. I've heard of DID and FXS. DID is more expensive, the cards I've found. What interface cards would I need to accomplish inbound and outbound calling for as cheap (within a 100 range) as possible but functional. Also, say I didn't use a land line though defeat a big purpose, can I still set up two Cisco IP phones linked? Do I need Call Manager Express, is there a cheaper solution like computer based software? I'm confused on logistics and how I could go about this. If anyone could provide info, it would be great!
Transferring a Analog PBX to a Switch/Patch Panel system? I am currently helping a company upgrade their system. They have an analog PBX Toshiba system all tied up in a 101-block system. I am thinking of changing it and having all the IP Phones going into a Patch Panel and then into a switch with 1 port going into the PBX system. Is it possible to have an analog PBX system going through a switch and Patch Panel?
