Can you tell me the benefits of an IP phone system over a Digital phone system? I am talking about business solution phone systems like Cisco or Nortel bcm 500s.

Cisco IP 7970 phone system - How to reset the default voicemail option? I have been provided with a new phone by my company which features different setting options including voicemail setting. As default setting, you have the system voice recorded which plays (when non-answering the phone) and to which you can add your name (with your own voice) at the end of the default system voice message. The problem is that when I recorded my name, I hanged up because I couldn't do it properly (I was laughing....) and wanted to try later. But unfortunatly, the default voice system has disapeared. How can I reset the default voice system please?
Wireless IP phone small office system? I have a small business that I would like to run VOIP system in but: a) I don't want to pay thousands of dollars for such system and b) I'm renting an old office space that does not have LAN capabilities and I'm having a hard time negotiating a deal with the property manager. How would I go about a Wireless IP phone system that would allow me to run my business better and not go through construction, wiring closet, wall ethernet ports, etc I've been looking at some Wireless IP phones but I don't think it is as simple as turn on a wireless IP phone, connect it to your wireless router, and you are all set. Does anyone know how to connect/use an IP conference phone with your laptop when working remotely? I have an HP laptop and am using bluetooth to connect to the internet. I have a Cisco Systems IP Conference phone that is plugged in correctly. The conference phone is plugged into a power outlet and the port is plugged into my computer. The IP phone keeps saying "Configuring IP" and doesn't do anything else. Does anyone know how to get this conference phone working with my laptop? Hosted ip phone solution? We currently host our own ip phone system (Cisco AVVID) and are exploring whether it would be more cost effective to have it hosted externally. We will need an ip phone solution for our office, with extension calling, caller id, conf calling, etc... We will need international calling as well. How do I add roll over VOIP lines to my Avaya phone system? Hi, We’ve just installed a new AVAYA 9508 IP phone system in our office and we’re looking to add some more lines in. Currently we have one Analog line that we want to keep and have rollover lines. For example: when my primary business analog line is busy, I would like incoming calls to that number which would normally be directed to voicemail to now rollover onto our new VOIP phone lines. Also, I would like all out going calls on any of these VOIP lines to be displayed as my primary business number. My questions are whether or not this is even possible and if I have to do it through my phone provider or can it be easily programmed in-house on my Avaya phone system.

When am I being Monitored? Cisco Phone System? When am I being monitored at work? We have a new phone system at work and I cannot figure out when I am being monitored. My phone says Cisco 7600 IP phone or something like that. I go to my task manager and I see the monitoring program running but it doesn't start to count, my monitor doesn't blink, I do not hear an echo, etc... Does anybody know how to tell if you are being monitored at work when your company is using a Cisco VOIP phone system? I do not care for the "you should just do your job stuff". What is the difference between an IP-Pbx telephone system and a normal PBX? So i am looking for a telphone system for my small sized company. We need something that provides us one phone number but in case the line is busy another staff member can get the diverted call even though he/she is sitting in a completely seperate country. Nortel IP Phone 1140 E, my company brought new phones and every time it rings it goes to speakphone automatic? Our old phone system we would have a phone and a break away headset. We're still using the same headsets but new phones Nortel 1140e. Before when we got a call, we could break away our headset from the phone and it would ring without connecting the call until we put our headset in. With these new phones if we automatically break away our headset, the call goes right to speakerphone live. Needless to say this is very annoying, I want to have the phone ring without connecting the call until I plug my headset back in, is this possible?
Are there any reliable and reasonable PRI-T1 providers that will service the NYC area? We currently have a PRI-T1 where all our domestic long distance and internataional calls are routed via IP. We pay a discounted rate for different countries, and a flat rate within the US. We are looking to replace this provider due to problems with our caller ids not appearing properly or at all, and the voice quality issues where calls are dropped or choppy. why are there no IP addresses available from my router? I'm trying to setup a new IP phone system whereby the phones obtain an IP address from my router's DHCP server. they're all fine bar one, which says no IP address available. everything on the network is setup for dynamic routing - no static IP addresses at all. I heard that the router should be able to cope with 50 devices and I have nowhere near that many. Router details are currently: IP address: 10.1.10.1 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 DHCP Start: 10.1.10.2 DHCP End: 10.1.10.199 I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to IP ranges and subnets, so please be gentle! Thanks Tom Update in response to the first answer: 1) not a cable / port issue - tried several cables into different ports with same result. tried direct into my network switch with a brand new cat5 cable and no dice 2) there are no status lights on the rj45 connectors on the phones. sadly. 3) no settings on the phone that are different to the other 6 phones that have gotten IP addresses fine - they're all brand new out of the box

Hence how can u guarantee about quality as packets might get lost/damaged due to network congestion? How do Cisco IP Phone licenses work regarding Cisco Communications Manager Express (CME)? We currently have a Cisco UC520, which provides licenses for our phones. We are thinking of upgrading to a big Cisco CME router, and I have been told we will need all new phones with user licenses included (not spares). I was researching this on the internet, and came across someone talking about being sold "fake" CME phone licenses, or "illegal setups" online. Yet others say that there is no such thing? Basically, is the user license a code number on the side of an IP Phone box? is the code embedded in the phone firmware or do you need to enter it into the router for the phone to register and work? Will our "spare" phones still work on the system without any licenses, and this is what Cisco refers to as an "illegal" setup? (We wouldn't do this of course, I am just very confused and trying to figure out how it works. There appear to be many different beliefs about the subject. Anyone? Thanks!

XP ICS and IP phone problem? I am trying to hook up a IP phone at a remote location, the only source of internet at the location is a wireless USB card. What I am trying to do is share the USB wireless card's connection using XP's internet connection sharing and a crossover cable on a LAN card. This works OK, the phone has access to the internet and reports to the PBX system at the remote location fine. The problem is that ICS changes the IP and port numbers (it usually appends "59" to each, so the PBX sees an IP address of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx59:xxxx59) Obviously that is not possible so the PBX refuses the registration and the phone gets no connection. I've tried forwarding the appropriate ports in the "settings" connection of the wireless properties menu but ICS is still appending numbers to the IP and port numbers. I believe this system would work fine if ICS would stop adding/altering information. Is there any way to keep ICS from changing port/ip addresses? If not are there any other good third party programs that will let me share a internet connection between a computer and a "dumb" OS-less device? Thanks! ICS is configured fine, the phone has DCHP support and picks a valid IP on the network fine (192.168.0.xxx) The problem is that ICS adds "59" to the IP and port numbers when the phone tries to connect to the PBX system through certain ports (the SIP registration port, 5060 to be exact.) Telling the host computer to forward the SIP port directly to the phone does not work. The logs from the phone show that it is connecting just fine however the IP and port numbers are invalid so the phone does not complete the registration. This is a problem with ICS as the phone works on the same network just fine if It is wired directly to the router. ICS is adding information for some reason, either a firewall (I have all firewalls turned off) or some other security measure. Is it possible to turn those features off? There are no settings to do so in any GUI menus so I am assuming that there is a configuration file that needs to be modified I just don't know where to look. I guess I'm not allowed to answer my own question? The solution was using a network bridge instead of ICS. A computer with a wireless card can act as a wireless bridge assuming it has a wired LAN card. Both network adapters must be forced into compatibility (or promiscuous) mode. Vonage phone system and web access problem. Anyone know how to fix it? I recently installed vonage d link vwr on my pc. It was a gift from family in the usa. I wired it up in the way specified in the booklet. The phone worked perfectly, but when I tried the internet I could not get access. I tried typing cmd in run and typed reconfig in the dialog box, but when I clicked ok, the next line read c\documents and settings and it made no difference. My son in law said it was probably that I have a setting wrong and the vonage ip address is not being recognised. My operating system is xp run thru a cable modem. Do any of you brainiacs have any suggestions how to fix this??
Curious to know if any small business is initerested in hosted PBX? Hosted PBX is the notion that your service providers hosts your phone system for you. Then over an IP connection you are connected to that service provider. You don't have to manage anything. you simply plug ini your IP phone. Who is familiar with this concept?
Internation IP Phone? Hi, Im living in the US and moving to Geneva, Switzerland. I will like to know if theres any company in the US that provides a service of IP phone for people living abroad. Meaning, can I have a US local line/tone in a house in Switzerland for a descent price?. Normally this phones runs over IP and are not expensive. I know Skype provides something similar, but I dont like that system because its computer based. Based on your response I will give more details. Our system is a new install of Cisco VOIP. We had an incident which caused calls to be dropped or not connected at all. Cisco gave us a patch to fix the problem, but we have no way of load testing the fix until people came in the next morning and started using the system. We would like to prove the system is working before people come into work. Didn't find any phone testing equipement called Sidekick7. It looked more like an app for cell phones.
How can I connect 2 PC's to a CISCO IP phone? I am on a corporate network. We used to plug a CISCO IP phone (7911) to the wall, then connect a the PC to the phone. Everything worked fine, but then I got a laptop and i want to connect it to the system. So, I bought a switch, connected it to the cable coming out of the phone and attached the PC and the laptop to it. Only one of the devices (the PC or the laptop) connects, the other one doesn't. I tried different topologies, i even connected the switch to the wall and then connected the 3 other devices to it (PC, Laptop, and Phone) but then the phone did not connect. Is there something i am missing?

Can two Alcatel OmniPCX Office phone systems be linked over a VPN\WAN? We have two OmniPCX's at two seperate sites, plus one Siemens really old thing at our main site. The 3 sites will soon be migrating into one big site. Instead of buying a new system, we was wondering if we could put one of the Alcatels at the new site, setup IP phones at the site it's removed from (4 users...) then link up to the 2nd site with the Alcatel - so that when they move over - we can migrate them as and when as the system is already in place. Then when the last site moves we can leave the old siemens system behind and get new handsets to join up to the alcatel. I know it'll take up to 236 connections, we don't need that many - but close too (inc analogue). Also, can two be run on the same site, so to take the connections up to 472 connections - if need be. If someone txts your phone via the wireless provider's website, is there any way to find out who sent it? I received a text message on my phone anonymously, as it was sent via the Rogers Wireless website to my phone number. I was wondering if it was possible to find out who sent it? Does their system record an IP address, or anything like that, of the sender? The provider is Rogers Wireless in Toronto, Canada.
If someone knew my cell phone's external IP address, and its host name, is my security @ risk? I downloaded an app, and it allows me access to my external IP address, and my host name. This made me wonder. If someone knew this info, which seems to be a way, possibly, to link up with me, and my cell phone's, activity, online, or during internal system usage, when/if I use it within the vacinity of the person who knows this info, could that person do what I fear, and gain ANY unauthorized data? Transferring a Analog PBX to a Switch/Patch Panel system? I am currently helping a company upgrade their system. They have an analog PBX Toshiba system all tied up in a 101-block system. I am thinking of changing it and having all the IP Phones going into a Patch Panel and then into a switch with 1 port going into the PBX system. is auto dialing patience to remind them of appointments hipaa compliment? My company is a small hosted phone system provider. Our clients host their IP phone systems in out data center instead of investing in on site equipment. One of our clients is a doctors office and wants us to write a code that will allow his system to call patients to remind them of their appointments. the only data that would be in our system is the phone number and date/time of their appointment. What hipaa issues would be involved if any, how can i mitigate them and if possible were can i find some "english" information about this topic. My best understanding is that as long as we do our best to ensure the patience privacy we are all set and as we don't have any particulars in our database we are covered.

Static IP Address? I am trying to change my computers ip address so that I can work with the phone system. I am getting an error "static ip address that was just configured is already in use on the network. Reconfigure a different ip address". This is the only ip address that I know I am able to use for the phone system. How do I find out who is using this ip address (work at a school....lots of computers) and kick them off? How can I connect two T1 lines together for increased bandwidth? I am ordering 2 new T1 lines for my company, one with 16 analog VOIP lines, and the other with IP internet services only. My ISP tells me they can only connect the two lines together if I get a digital VOIP line, but our phone system isn't compatible with digital lines. My problem is that I am throwing away a lot of usable bandwidth on the VOIP T1 line that can be used to supplement our data T1 line. Is there any device on the market that will allow me to bridge these two connections? Thanks in Advance! A new PBX system (which I did look into) will cost us about $25,000. My bosses will not spend the extra 25k for a phone system just to get some bandwidth. The Idea behind going with VOIP was to save on the phone bills compared to a Telco line. If I were to say lets spend an extra 25k to get a new phone system to, then I would have no T1 line at all, and we would keep our slow 384k DSL service.
In my system info under internet explorer my IP address and all server addresses are 0.0.0.0, Is that bad? Ever since I changed internet providers I've been having bad computer troubles. My new provider's techs just keep reading from the same page of their manual. Matters are complicated because I have only 1 phone line. So, I have to hang up to try their advice. I call back and say, "Didn't work this time either" Anyway, I figure I may have better luck here. Thank you for your help!
Juniper versus Cisco...thoughts? We're splitting our HQ in two, moving about 40 folks over to a new location. We have an Avaya phone system and will be deploying IP phones at the new site over a pair of bonded point-to-point T1's. Our phone vendor is recommending Juniper J2300's on both ends...I've read a few bad reviews and some good reviews of Juniper. I'm cross-shopping a Cisco 1841 on one end (costs about $400 more than the Juniper) and a Cisco 2811 on the other end (costs more but has 4 WIC slots...more on that later). The reason I'm looking at a beefier router on the HQ end is that I'd like to potentially retire some of our SonicWALL devices to sort of 'clean up' what has become a pretty complex network and condense them into one chassis....and I hear that Juniper's strength is firewalls...in which case realistically I'd probably go for a J2320, again to get the extra slots...but the 2320 costs about the same as the Cisco.... ...so do I go with the newcomer Juniper or do I 'Pay the Piper' for Cisco?

why do i get a system error on my desktop when i try and connect a wireless device using wi-fi? heres the details... 2 XP desktops connected via a netgear router. now one of them, always the same pc1, if it is already online, and i try to connect a wi-fi device, say may laptop, or i-phone, pc1 always goes offline claiming a windows system error ip-conflict. this doesnt happen when the wi-fi device is online and then u connect pc1. can any1 tell me what to do? do i have to change addresses? ps: any1 know where the reset button on the router is, i dont remember my password either, and defaults don't work
If I set up my own IP-PBX, I still have to pay money to use a SIP gateway provider? I was going to use Asterisk and set up my own IP-PBX but, I will still need a SIP gateway provider? Will your Main Comcast IP address change when you move or transfer service? I have lived in 2 different apartments in the last 7 years, has my ISP IP address changed when I moved ? Or do they give me the same ISP IP address ? I did not transfer my service last time I moved, I canceled from my old place then after being in my new place I called Comcast to get Internet,cable and phone. So did they have my old ISP IP still in their system ? If I switched from Comcast to AT&T would I get the same ISP IP ? So say if I joined Youtube or another website would they still see my ISP IP address from when I lived in my other apartment and know I was already signed up with them ? I need help with a formula in Crystal Reports Version 9!? Okay, so I'm a "technology dude" at this company. We run a gourmet train up and down the valley. In order to ride the train, people need to call into the reservations department. Recently, we switched our phone system to Avaya IP Office, and now my managers want reports from CCC Reporting listing all of the lost calls in a day. I purchased Crystal Reports V.9 to create custom reports for their needs, but I've run into a problem... I cannot successfully find/create a function or equation to display all the callers who had called the reservations department and abandoned the call after 30 seconds had passed. Also, I cannot get the report to just show "lost" calls. So, before I bang my head against the keyboard due to exhaustion from this crazy task, here is what I need: 1) A formula showing the exact time a caller waited before hanging up. 2) A formula that only lists "Lost Calls" on the report, rather than all of them. Please can anybody help?!

How do we use the compter to make international calls? I understand we can now use our computer to make international phone calls through the internet. This means we can bypass the conventional international call services provided by the telephone companies and it will be very much cheaper. May I know how do I set up such a system? VoIP Networking? My company is setting up Fonalities VoIP phone system with PBXtra. We are going to create an IP Scope for the phones and hardwire their MAC addresses to these phones. My question is: Is there any way to make this scope provide boot image info using a DHCP config option in case we need to re-provision the phones? We also need to set up a Sub-domain for these IP Addresses and forward DNS to the PBXtra server for this sub-domain. Can anyone point me in the direction to creating a config file/boot image to auto-provision the phones? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Is there a way to work the system on C.L. and Backpage so I can place multiple ads in different cites? I am having difficulties with C.L. and backpage allowing me to post multiple ads in different cites. Both sites have blocked me, not allowed me create an account, and have ghosted my ads. My ads are not illegal by any means. I simply need to reach a large audience across the United States and I am having much difficulty doing so. I thought maybe I could change my IP address or something like that. I have four computers on ethernet and a laptop on an aircard. Even with a brand new account the sites will not let me post. C.L. says I need to authorize my account by phone. However, I have used my number already for my old account. Strangely, when I use that same account from a different location I have no problems posting. Does anyone have any suggestions?

How does a Vanilla Mastercard (giftcard) Deal With Negative Balance? Hi, I just purchased a vanilla mastercard to try and keep my identity safe as possible when buying things online, but there must have been a problem with their system, where their calculation of what you spent it on is added 2 times shown because it is shown in 2 different tables, one about pending amounts and the the available credit vs debits. As a result, it causes me have to have a negative balance from this miscalculation. On the card holder agreement, it says I am responsible for this payment. So some of my questions are: 1) How would they actually charge me for the balance since they never asked about my address or personal information? Wil they track my IP or phone, or follow transaction addresses/information? 2) Since this was from a miscalculation, will they correct it or will it be arguable that it was a mistake and these extra cost was not suppose to be deducted in the first place? 3) Is there any way just to terminate this card to ensure there are no more transactions? 4.Once it passes its "thru period" and begins to deduct a charge, will this negative balance get worse if I or they, don't do anything about it? 5. And lastly, if I were to just try and settle this and get it over with by paying the negative balance, how would I do it?

Is there a service to catch internet impersinators? Someone has setup an e-mail in my name through hotmail. For the past year, they have used my phone number and my identity in order to cause harassment. Everything from placing false ads to leaving messages for people to call me. Please help. They seem to be using the library system (based on my IP search)
