Small Business Phone Systems -- PBX? Virtual PBX? Something Else? I'm planning on starting a small business that will require lots of inbound and outbound phone calls. Including conference calling and setting up conference bridges. I want to know, should I be putting money into an OnSite PBX system or a Virtual PBX system? And if either, who is the best business that provides this service?
Need Internet phone system with PBX features? I have a small buisness and over the years have a rigged up hone syetem that is surely costly and inefficient. Want to explore new options: One main line with a greeting message and ability to transfer to a maximum of five office lines. One fax. Need to transfer between lines. I have seen the VOIP lines and they look super. Does anyone have a suggestion for a flexible system that can be managed by a small business owner with moderate computer skills. Thank you!
What office phone system do I have and how do I update it? My two-employee (with an occasional intern) office has a very old phone system, one with probably more features than we need. We have four lines coming in. A few weeks ago, something strange happened to the phones, making them not work the same way they used to. Since this system is so old, we do not have any of the telephone or system manuals and don't know how to fix it. We may need new phones or an entire new system. The current phone seems to be a PBX system. The cabinet and three phones are all Fujitsu. I guess my question is can I just buy new 4-line phones (nice and cheap) and us them with the current cabinet, or do I also need a new cabinet (not so cheap)? Our office would probably be fine with a key-less system, just using the phones, but I imagine that would involve a removal of the current cabinet, which would also require professional installation (un-installation) services. Any ideas are appreciated. We are looking for the most cost-effective option. Thanks.
How do I wire a cordless phone system with 2 phone numbers? At my office, I have two phone numbers. Both lines are currently going through a Avaya PBX system. What would be the major disadvantage of a company monitoring their PBX system? Phone fraud or PBX fraud involves gaining access to a company's PBX (Private Branch Exchange) and using it to route international calls allowing callers to dial numbers at little or no cost to the callers but the PBX owner has to bear the cost of the call. My question is: Why don't more companies monitor their PBX system? There must be some disadvantage to doing it and I can't figure out why.

What is the difference between an IP-Pbx telephone system and a normal PBX? So i am looking for a telphone system for my small sized company. We need something that provides us one phone number but in case the line is busy another staff member can get the diverted call even though he/she is sitting in a completely seperate country. What are the differences between IP-PBX and normal PBX systems. We have roughly 14 employees so would need around that many phone lines of similar numbers. Thank you. P:s could you also link some product if u have in mind thanks.
What education/training do phone administrators have? I'm talking about the people in the IT department who manage the phone systems, PBX, automated attendant, extensions, etc. I'm thinking of a bigger company with a bigger phone system, but I don't know if that is relevant. What sort of educational background do these people typically have?
I have a Hosted PBX by a Telecom Provider, I need another Phone. Do I have to use the provider's phone? Hello, I use a Hosted PBX system in my office. We already contract 3 phones from them and each phone has their own phone number. I need to add another phone, is it possible for me to buy from someone else and connect it to the PBS system provided by the provider? I didn't realize that there were cheaper alternatives out there and unfortunately I have one more year left in our contract. Thank you.
What's the advantage of using T1 over the regular Verizon phone system in an office? We have an issue of static with the Verizon system in our small office. A different line every time; can't pinpoint when, where or why it will happen. Verizon and our PBX manufacturer just point fingers at each other, w/no solution so far. Swapped out all of our PBX equipment a while back, so I think it's Verizon. Someone suggested going to a T1 for the phones -- we already have one for data -- to circumvent Verizon. Need to know what the possible risks are. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
PBX phone pros? Hunt groups on Intertel? This is a simple question for you PBX pros. We have an Intertel Axxess phone system at my work and I am trying to figure out hunt groups. I have noticed the extensions 2705, 2706, 2709, and 2711 in the directory on the screen on my phone as I scroll through it with the names of each of the companies in my building for each. I am used to answering calls and transferring to a specific person's extension and trying and retrying extensions for different people if the person is busy or on another call. My question is can I transfer the call to the hunt group number (if that's even what it is, which I think it is) and it will ring through to all the phones in the hunt group? Is my understanding of this correct? Secondly, do you know how to view/modify the list of extensions in the hunt group without DB software? (if it is possible)
Connect old PBX Desk Phone To RJ-11 Phone Jack.? I have a standard RJ-11 phone jack in my office that both my phone lines are wired to. I would like to connect an old style desk phone that has "hold" and is capable of receiving multiple lines. The old phone is from a PBX system so I am wondering if I can rewire it to work properly off my RJ-11 jack? Thank you. I currently have it connected with a 2 line analog phone. I was hoping to use the old phone because I like the retro look and have always found the old desk phones more comfortable. I guess I am stuck with what I have. Thanks BobB, I will check and see if I have the 1A2 KSU. It does have the red hold button & 4 or 5 line buttons. I can live without the "hold" functioning but I would like the ring to work.
I want to connect my office digital phone to my computer so that I can use my bluetooth headset. Can I do it? I have a digital multiline PBX system at my office. I think it's a LUCENT/AVAYA Partner ACS System. I also have a laptop that has bluetooth built in. I also have a bluetooth headset that I normally use with my cell phone. I'd like to somehow connect my phone system with my computer so that I can that use my bluetooth headset to speak on my phone. I'd also like to perhaps record my phone conversations through my computer. Does anyone know what product I need to purchase so that my digital phone system will somehow connect to my laptop?
With a PBX system, can you simultaneously talk through a single PSTN line with multiple external phones? I am new to the whole PBX system and am looking to set one up one in my office. I wanted to know that if I had one PSTN line (say through verizon) then can multiple people in my office talk to multiple people on the outside through the same PSTN line?
What is a cheapest and simplest way to set up phone extensions in an office (PBX)? I don't know much about PBX systems. Have a simple question. What would be the cheapest way to have one incoming line, with a greeting and 3-4 extensions for my sales people in the office. What used equipment would I need from Craigslist or eBay?
Many company's do not monitor their PBX systems despite the phone hack problems, why is this? Please be as specific as you can as we are deciding whether or not to do so. Thank you!
Compare VoIP Phone systems? What are the Pros and Cons between 3CX IP phone system and other PBX phone system? I want to know the technical requirements, knowledge and how it works.
Suggestions for an office PBX system? Hey there, I'm looking to upgrade the phone system in our office to include call queuing, recording, and stats with automated greeting and attendant. We are currently running a Bizfon 680 system. We have the following: -6 analog lines -2 t-1 lines -24 extensions (we'd like around 30) I've worked with a linux system running asterisk before but that was a totally VoIP system. I liked working with asterisk but it's been years since I've last touched it. Is there a way to use some of the existing equipment (analog) and run asterisk with a linux server? Are there any recommended companies offering systems like what I need (I've researched a few but they sell the shabang at huge prices)? Thanks so much in advance, and if you need any other information I'll be sure to update!
How do I determine the range of IP addresses assigned by DHCP? How do I determine the range of IP addresses assigned by DHCP? I need to assign an IP address to a PBX phone system. This IP address needs to be outside the range of IPs assigned by my DHCP server.
PBX system for home use? I am looking for what hardware i would need for a home PBX type system. I have my phone service through Comcast and want to setup the phone in the home to all use it AND each have its own extension so that say if I am in the garage i can dial the extension for my living room and my wife can answer it there. I want to have around 5-10 phones throughout the house each with its own extension. Please I want the easiest way and please do not tell me to switch to some VoIP internet calling service or Skype! thank you! Also if an auto attendant type feature is available suggestions are welcome.
Does a small business need a PBX? Can't we just use cell phones? I am starting a small business with 2 partners. They want us to buy some kind of mini PBX for a business phone system. I say--no way. Can't we just use cell phones? Who wants a desk phone these days? There must be a way to buy a plan where you can transfer phone calls to each other, and maybe even have an auto-attendant feature, right? If anyone has used cell phones instead of a PBX, I would love to know what you used and how well it worked. Thanks!
Why am I having trouble with my office phone wiring? I'm not very savvy when it comes to telecommunications but I will try to explain to the best of my ability. I have recently moved offices, because of a good deal at a better/larger office. The last tenant had vacated the office about a year ago. They had renovated the office and installed a PBX phone system and lay cables for a network throughout the office (cat5e cable with about 15 rj45 wall jacks). They left the office in a rush, and were apparently being loaned most of their equipment, so they removed it all, so when I moved in there was just a bunch of cat5e cables hanging out of the wall in the closet, as well as the demarcation (?) phone cables. The phone cabling is all wired up to a krone punch-block. I tested some of the pairs (Blue/White, Orange/White, Green/White) with an analog phone, and got a disconnected tone from the O/W and G/W pairs - I'll assume they had 2 phone lines running through these pairs. My ISP has activated naked DSL for the building (a techie went out to the exchange and did whatever they do). On my end, all I've done is connected my modem directly up to the appropriate pair (regular cable from modem to the wall with the BT plug cut off and the wires exposed) to see if I get DSL Sync. I get absolutely nothing though, and I have tested a few of the other pairs too. So my question is: Am I doing something completely wrong/stupid? Should wiring up the modem to the phone wires like this work? What should I do to sort out the problem (DIY)?
Why is it so hard to find good business phone maintenance? The company I work for needs a little maintenance for our Nortel Norstar PBX phone system. Out of the two phone guys in our rolodex, one was unhelpful and unresponsive, the other is very expensive. A third referral I had was not local. Where on earth / on the web can you find reviews and recommendations for those contractors? There's nothing on Yelp, Tek-tips bans discussions of that type, and I'm not a fan of Angie's List. Maybe it's common, but I've never heard of the phone company handling the business' PBX. The phone company (AT&T / Bell / Verizon / Telepacific etc.) usually is responsible for everything outside, up to the demarc line, and then it's the customer and his own Nortel or Avaya system. Sure our system isn't so new, but we have 40 extensions and it's super-sophisticated and very reliable, so we see no need to upgrade.
How do I set up an IP PBX system with my VOIP service and 4-line analog phones? I have an internet connection, a VOIP service provider-supplied ATA with 2 cloned lines, and 3 analog 4-line phones. I'm planning on purchasing 2 more cloned lines for a total of 4 lines/2 phone numbers. What equipment do I need to connect my 3 analog phones to be able to use all 4 VOIP lines along with transfer/park/intercom/call waiting/extensions/auto attendant functions? I know I need a PBX, but I don't know if it's an IP PBX I need, or just a regular PBX. and do I need an FSX gateway, or can I just use my two 2-line ATA's? I want to use a hardware PBX such as Grandstream or Talkswitch, not a self-managed system like Asterisk/TrixBox. But the Grandstream PBX seems to only have 2 line capabilities, while I need 4. Any recommendations for me? Is there any other equipment that I need? Thanks! Thanks guys, but I'm on a limited budget and don't want to 1) start over with all brand new equipment 2) use hosted PBX with a monthly cost per seat. The Icon TOS-3000 looks like it only works with IP phones and has only a single FSX port for analog connections. Plus, it's too expensive. the phones I'm using are 1x RCA 25425RE1 (autoattendant built in, but crappy) and 2x RCA 25424RE1 (same phone without autoattendant and vmail) Why don't I use an 8 port ATA as opposed to 2x 2 port ATAs? I already have one and signing up for a new SIP trunk would get me another free 2 port ATA, thus 4 ATA ports for free vs and 8 port for $200+ used. All I really need to know is what I need to add to my current system to make it meet my needs. I'll be using VOIP service (2x 2 cloned lines from same provider) on 3x RCA analog 4-line business phones (each with 2x 2-line input jacks) Do I need a 4 port FXS Gateway or can I juse use my 2x 2 port ATAs (HT-502)? Not sure
what kind of phone system should I get for a small business? Do I need PBX, Centrex, a key system? Or something simpler-- like just plugging the phones into the wall? There's only two of us now, and the office can hold up to 5 people. I don't think we'll need more than 2-3 lines max. We want to be able to pick up lines from any phone, transfer calls, and get voicemail. My building has Verizon FIOS, and they say I can just get 2-3 lines with them (plus separate data) and phones that have the capability to handle multiple lines, transferring, etc. I'll voice mail, call forwarding, etc. through Verizon-- just plugging them straight into the phone jack. The building has some kind of telecom closet. Does that work? I don't have to buy some kind of $3000 "box" of some sort? Simpler is better...
can a phone line to a (non voip) pbx be substituted with a voip line? Just wondering if I could use the voip line coming from my naked dsl modem, to plug in my pbx system instead of using a direct phone line. Essentially the info pumped through the voip line from the modem is the same as a regular phone line right? so is this a work around to upgrading my existing functional pbx with an ip pbx? at home i have naked dsl and i have an dsl voip modem/router which has a voip line built in. Basically u enter all the sip details into the modem then plug a regular phone into the voip plug hole in the modem. will a pbx work through this phone port too?
Fiber optice/data/phone line worker? how do i become a line worker putting up/ repairing fiber, and voice and data lines on the poles? I really want to do this job, but i have no clue how to learn it, where to learn it, or how to even get my foot in the door. Right now i run wire inside of buildings and install pbx phone systems. I would much rather be out doors doing line work.
How can I have extensions for each phone in my home? I would like to have a phone system in my home, that allows people to dial an extension to reach a certain phone in my home. Do I need a PBX to do that? If so, where can I buy one for a low price?
Curious to know if any small business is initerested in hosted PBX? Hosted PBX is the notion that your service providers hosts your phone system for you. Then over an IP connection you are connected to that service provider. You don't have to manage anything. you simply plug ini your IP phone. Who is familiar with this concept?
PBX Systems Advice, asterisks yes no? Hey guys my company already has an old PBX analogue system, that supporting about 75 users, we recently hired about 4 users who will be doing there own specific tasks the software we are giving them requires VOIP compatibility phone systems and our old pbx systems dose not support that, recently was told about a program called trixbox i was thinking of investing on it and just installing it on a server we perches, what I'm getting to is what is your advice on trixbox, good bad etc. and would you recommend another type of PBX thank you. Cheapest PBX? Hello, How does a small business set up the most affordable pbx system? Lets say we do not want to set up an actual phone system - such as the one which connects the box in the phone/wire room, and the jacks all go out through that phone box. Rather, how does one set up a phone system which would be connected through the computer, or a phone handset. I believe there are some voip/computer solutions, but i fail to understand how it works. Could someone please provide detail step by step guide as to how to set up an affortable pbx through the technology of desktop computer/voip, etc? Thanks! P.S: The functions that are expected from the pbx system, is that when someone wants to make a phone call, they can dial the main number, and then dial the appropriate extension, so that the caller would be routed to the appropriate person.
Why when calling a business do you hear music and then the ring of the extension? How is it when calling an extension at a business you hear the music and then the ringing. How does\the phone system know when to stop playing the music to leave a voicemail. How do I program my PBX system to play music for a few seconds and then hear the ring or have the caller hear the music while the extension is ringing?
Transferring a Analog PBX to a Switch/Patch Panel system? I am currently helping a company upgrade their system. They have an analog PBX Toshiba system all tied up in a 101-block system. I am thinking of changing it and having all the IP Phones going into a Patch Panel and then into a switch with 1 port going into the PBX system. Is it possible to have an analog PBX system going through a switch and Patch Panel?
Can I use VOIP on my internal network without outside service? I need a pbx style phone system in my business but I dont have the funds for a traditional system. I have a wired/wireless ethernet system already installed throughout my business and was wondering if there was a way to use IP phones through the network internally without an outside VOIP service provider?

Cheap MP3 player that plays music while charging? I am looking for a cheap "music on hold" solution for our company phone system (PBX). I am looking for a mp3 player that can play a continuous loop while it is constantly connected to the USB to remain charged. I understand that an iPod can do this with a docking station, but I am looking for something under $50. Manufactures don't list this as a feature, so I am looking for someone that knows if this works with their player through experience. Thanks
Can you dial in and make a message remotely into a building PA system? We have a Definity/PBX switch with phone line input into an amplifier to make PA annoucements. We would like to be able to call in remotely and make messages through the PA system. Is it possible to install a device that could allow this to happen?
Is there a box you can buy that plugs into your phone line and you could program to selectively screen calls? I have not been able to find anything like this for the average consumer. I have seen high end PBX systems that will do it, but nothing small, simple and cheap. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?
How much is my business worth? Any investors out there with a ballpark of what they would value my business at? Obviously I would hire a lawyer and consultant to do a real valuation, but I want to see if I can get a ballpark before I go that route. Gross Sales: 2006: $61,500 2007: $278,000 2008: $305,000 2009 $875,000 (est.) Requires 500 sf of warehouse space and 1 30 hour a week employee but could be done by new owner. I pay the employee $12 per hour to run operations while I focus on growing the business. I could leave and it would run itself, but just not grow. Including payroll, discretionary spending and net income, you're looking at about $300,000 a year that the owner could keep. Assets: Websites: $10,000 Computers: $3,000 PBX Phone System: $1,500 Inventory: $50,000 (cost) $305,000 (retail) Office Equipment: $2,000 Intellectual Property: $10,000 Warehouse Equipment: $1,500 Misc: $2,000 Total: $80,000 Sales growth is over 100% a year. I don't really know what to value it at, but I would be happy to get at least $1m. The Christmas season still ahead, we could break 1M in sales this year. The 2009 sales figure I put up there is a lowball estimate. I would like to sell before the end of 2010 because of the capital gains tax hike that goes into effect then. I am not willing to pay the higher rate and rob my kids college fund to pay it.
Good cheap home PBX,? Hi, I have a medium sized house (larger than average) with 3 floors of livable space so its kinda spread apart. We are looking into a home PBX system to simply things. What would be the cheapest system and phones to get for a home that would allow us the following features - possibly used or refurbished - I live in Calgary, Alberta (Canada, hopefully you got that if you live in the states, its the oil capital of Canada): -2-4 lines (We might use VoIP-PSTN/POTS adapters for 1 long distance line and 2 VoIP private lines). -Transfering Calls -Auto Attendant -Voicemails (4 personal and possibly 1 general) -Music On Hold (I know this seems kind-of like something we dont need but I just think it would be kinda cool). Thanks very much in advance!
What is a PBX used for? My organization used to have an audio system and a conferencing bridge, with analog telephone service, to allow anyone to dial into a public conferencing system, to listen to the audio inside the organization, from a phone at home. Now, to save costs, they decided to eliminate the use of a public conferencing system, and decided to just have a private conferencing system, inside the organization. To do this, they decided to get a VoIP phone system. Now, they have a cable modem for VoIP phone service, a Linksys wireless router, and a PBX. Before they got VoIP, they had 2 phone numbers, but I am not sure if they still have the same phone numbers. In this case, what is the PBX used for? Does it act as a bridge for the conferencing system, to allow people to dial in, to listen to the audio coming from the organization? Is there anything else that the PBX could be doing in this organization? Also, why is a PBX necessary?

Where can I find the software to program my Alcatel 4400D PBX syste? I have a alcatel-lucent 4400D pbx system. The system does work, the phones can all dial, but I would like to find the manual and software so I can figure out how to access the P.A., the door intercom interface etc. I would also like to point out that before i asked this question and received a blatantly obvious 'first step' response that the manufacturers website did not have the manual, and i am still waiting on Alcatel to get back to me after being transferred multiple times to wrong departments hence why i have asked this question. I would appreciate any ideas on where to go from here, not time wasting "see the Manufacturer Website/Call Them" Thanks.

HELP! Cordless Phone Question? I manage a hotel and I need a powerful cordless phone that I can forward calls to from my PBX system when no one is at the desk. I can spend between $250-$400. A DIALER (WIN XP) to time and log outgoing phone calls? I'm looking for a dialer for windows XP, that logs and times the duration of outgoing calls, I have a small cybercafe and would like to try out the market for public phone calls, but don't want to spend thousands in expensive PBX systems for multiple call booths, since I'm starting with just one phone. Any help or pointers will be very appreciated. Thanks.
"Parallel" phone lines? I was originally looking into a PBX system for my house but it was a bit of a hassle. I found Panasonic's KX-TS4200. This is a corded telephone system. You can have up to 16 handsets throughout the house. Supposedly, they are each assigned an extension (as in a PBX system). For the intercom and page functions (i.e. extension features) to work, however, the phone jacks must be "parallel". What does this mean, and how do I find out before I go and spend 1500$? Thanks, and, as always, 10 pts.
If I set up my own IP-PBX, I still have to pay money to use a SIP gateway provider? I was going to use Asterisk and set up my own IP-PBX but, I will still need a SIP gateway provider? And, that costs money. I guess the real question, is there anyway I can set my system up so I can make free internet phone calls over the internet? Anyway around the SIP gateway provider.
networking question? Case Study: DMS Associates DMS Associates is a consulting firm located in Eastern City. Fifty people work in its home office in two buildings in a business complex. An additional 25 employee’s work from remote locations. DMS Associates is adding another 25 employees by opening a third location, Building C, elsewhere in Eastern City. Building C was purchased with its existing technology infrastructure intact. DMS Associates has asked you to evaluate and analyze the company's existing technology infrastructure and security for its network as reported below and to recommend a best practices approach to integrating the data communication, computer networks, and telephone systems of the three locations with a focus on security that is seamless. The goal is to create a company-wide technology infrastructure which supports seemingly seamless connectivity and data flow. Building A Staff: 25 employees. The IT operation is housed here. Networking: Three departmental LANs: Business and Finance Office, Staff Consultants, and Administration. These LANs all run Windows 2000 Advanced Server. 25 Remote workers have dial-in access to the network through a modem pool. E-mail service runs on an Microsoft Exchange Server using Outlook as the client software. Phone Service: The local and long distance phone service from Local Telephone Company through a leased PBX. Phone services include Voice Mail, Call Waiting, Call Forwarding. Internet Access and Usage: All offices in Building A have Internet Access through the network via a T-1 line to the company's ISP, Sharethenet.com. Software Applications: All employees are provided with Microsoft Office Professional suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access. The Company's financial systems run on Great Plains Accounting Software. Great Plains is used for personnel information, payroll, inventory, accounts payable, accounts receivable, quarterly and annual reports, and tax documentation. Building B Staff: 25 employees; 20 are staff consultants, the other five include a branch manager, receptionist, custodians, and an IT support person. Networking: The network consists of a single LAN running under Windows 2000 Server. E-mail Service is via a POP3 client through Internet to Building A's Exchange e-mail server. Phone Service: The local and long distance phone service from Local Telephone Company through a leased PBX. Phone services include Voice Mail, Call Waiting, Call Forwarding. This service is not connected directly to the Building A system. Internet Access and Usage: All offices in Building B share Internet Access through the network via the company's ISP, Sharethenet.com. Software Applications: All employees are provided with Microsoft Office Professional suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access. This location is unable to access the Great Plains financial software directly, and uses FTP to upload data weekly from an Access database. Building C Building C is located in a different section of Eastern City. Staff: Twenty-five people will work in this building. It is anticipated that staff composition will be the same as in Building B: 20 staff consultants, a branch manager, receptionist, custodians, and an IT support person. Networking: Two independent local area networks exist. Novel NetWare was used as the network operating system. Phone Service: The previous company had local phone service is provided by Local Phone Company, and long distance phone service are provided by a Sprint reseller. Internet Access and Usage: The previous company had 5 have dial-up Internet access accounts for company business use through AOL. Software Applications: Existing computers are provided with Microsoft Office Professional suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access. The previous company used Excel for accounting purposes, and Access for Inventory, Job tracking, customer records, etc. Payroll services were subcontracted to ADP. Weekly batch uploads of employee data from Excel were made to ADP. In Your Paper: In your Final Project Paper use the information presented below to develop and describe a data communications and computer networking plan to meet these criteria: 1.The three local area networks in building A are to be interconnected. 2.The networks in buildings A & B, which are close together, are to be interconnected. 3.The new building, building C, is to be inter-networked with the other locations using its existing technology infrastructure wherever possible, though some changes may be made if absolutely required for smooth integration. 4.Employees in all locations are to have access to the Internet through dedicated T-1 lines to a single ISP. 5.Telephone service for the three buildings is to function as a single system so that any phone in any building may reach any other phone using only the extension. 6.All employees are to have voice mail. 7.All employees are to have e-mail through the exchange server in building A including the remote workers. 8.In writing your paper describe the choices you would make in terms of the type of network, the connecting medium, the data communication model being followed. 9.Explain why your choices reflect today's best practices in data and voice communication. Be specific in your reasons, including the characteristics of each choice and explaining why they are appropriate for each task. 10.Diagram the data flow for each task using the drawing tools in Microsoft Word.
How to set up a small Callback system at home through PSTN only & no VoIP? Hello all, What hardware/software is required to set up a home call-back system with the following scenario: 1. I call my home land telephone xxx 2. the callback system will check the incoming Caller ID 3. if the caller is me (yyy), then, system will disconnect the line, and call back (yyy) 4. once I (yyy) pick up, the home callback system will request termination number zzz. 5. I will dial the termination number zzz 6. then the system dials zzz, while I'm waiting on the same line. 7. finally the system connects me (yyy) with termination (zzz) notes: A. only my home telephone will be charged all the time with this system. B. I have Caller ID and group calling features activated at home phone. C. No VoIP at all for the time being. only PSTN/PBX & my home phone. D. I prefere a stand alone device that does this function if possible. If not, then a PC + cards+ software is ok Thank you for spending your time trying to figure this out! waiting for your best solutions. :)
I need a simple home office PBX that works with analog wired phones.? Can someone recommend a PBX for my needs? I have a home office with one incoming land line. I don't what to change my phone plan nor my number. But I'd like to have an automated attendant that I can record (e.g. "Thank you for calling Acme Anvil Co. For Eric, press 1. For Samantha, press 2) and then be able to connect the wired telephones that I already have to "line one" and "line 2." I'm not worried about a high volume of calls, so the one incoming line is fine. I definitely don't want a PC or software-based system - A simple standalone box is fine. (I don't need VOIP or cordless handsets, detailed data on the calls, or anything complex). thanks
What is the feasibility of setting up a private cell phone network? What all would setting up a small, private cell phone network entail? I'm asking because I work at a production facility, which is fairly large, and several of the supervisors have been carrying around some rather bulky (and expensive) cordless phones, which are tied into our PBX. I know nothing about telephony, but I just got to thinking that it'd be a lot easier if we could just get them cell phones that would somehow work with our system. Or maybe somebody sells cell-phone sized cordless phones and I just haven't found them yet. I'm guessing this is probably going to be a no go for one of several possible reasons, but now I'm curious, so if you know about this stuff, humor me. Thanks
Asterisk PBX? Few Questions? I heard about Asterisk a while ago, but never paid much attention to it. I never saw the need for it, and to be frank right now, I don't see a dire need for it either. But, I am curious whether or not I can configure one for a private line, with multiple extensions, so here are my questions: 1. ) What exactly is Asterisk? I know it's a PBX, but what does it allow you to do? 2.) Are there any free services that I can use to make phone calls with it? Or do I have to connect it to a landline. 3.) Emergency calls. If I have it connected to a landline, do I have to disconnect it to make a phone call when no power is available? Is there a way this can be done without having to physically disconnect it? 4.) Pentium II? Good enough system? Is a Pentium II 450mhz, 385mb ram, 4gb hard drive, 10/100 ethernet good enough for 3 phone lines? 5.) I have two unused 56k modems. Can I use them to connect Asterisk to the POTS landline? (Plain Old Telephone Service = POTS) Thank you, Ryan Leaf
Personal Music On Hold? Hi, I am wondering what would be a VERY CHEAP or homemade solution to have hold music on a single corded phone in my house. Just something I'd like to do for fun until my family gets a PBX system sometime next year.
How to print reports with DNs and names in a Nortel PBX? Hello, Iam part of the Telecom Voice team of a big company, i started to use the system a few months ago and its been running great, but there was a big move of people like 3 weeks ago and the main reception is asking for a list of phone (extensions) assigned to all the people. Does any body knows how to run a report of all the active DN's with names and Ports if possible? I haven't use OTM, i've been using Procomm Plus to access the PBX. Do you know where or how can i get the OTM application?
VOIP question? We have an allworx system here and we had a networking guy configure it as our router and pbx. Basically it has capabilities of a router and a PBX also a hosting server but cant be a data server. We also have a panasonic pbx and have a landline connected to the allworx system. I was wondering if the allworx system can work without a landline connected to it. Can the allworx system get the landline through the configuration of the system which then can work through the internet and not landline? If you do this can you not use your phone service provider? Or is it that you just dont use their service in the sense of paying for local, domestic and international calls? then doesnt that mean when u have ur own router + PBX u have a server already. So you are your own phone service provider in that sense of is it that u can provide phone service to to others?
Need Internet phone system with PBX features? I have a small buisness and over the years have a rigged up hone syetem that is surely costly and inefficient. Want to explore new options: One main line with a greeting message and ability to transfer to a maximum of five office lines. One fax. Need to transfer between lines. I have seen the VOIP lines and they look super. Does anyone have a suggestion for a flexible system that can be managed by a small business owner with moderate computer skills. Thank you!
Purchasing PBX System and need a comprehensive list of services that can be provided.? I cant find a detailed list of services that a pbx system can provide. So Im going to start a list here and if you can provide me a yes or no I would be appreciative. I also need websites that give a DETAILED and LONG LIST of EVERY PBX service I could provide. I have scoured the internet, but I don't also know the most popular voip and pbx sites. I would again appreciate any help but that list of services is crucial. Thanks. Yes or no? 1. A paging system : page using a person ext using a pbx provided # 2. SMS Gateway : text from a website 3. Extent ion services: One number 25 extent ions for a small business 4. IVR : Do I need additional software? List of IVR services too 5. Wake up services: Wake up calls for small hotels 6. Agent call recording: I assume that's based on free hard drive space 7. Click to call services: Click a link, enter your number, your phone rings, you pick up and hear a call ringing 8. Calling Card Services: We provide a card with a number and pin and charge accordingly. That's all I can think of due to my limited knowledge. Yes or No would be great. If they are all services I could provide just reply YES ALL. Thanks... People I need that list, its crucial info I will need to determine if I will purchase and at what level I will purchase. See the guy below "Jana" wasnt clear. Im aware of trixbox but you didnt tell me if all of the numbered services I wanted to do is covered in a pbx system nor did you send me to websites that can tell me more. Im aware of Trixbox, and about 50 others. Jana didnt listen.
What percentage of companies have converted their phone systems to VoIP? I know that VoIP has only been "mainstream" for business users for the past 3-4 years. I'm curious as to what percentage of businesses are using a VoIP PBX & handsets today.
Hosted VoIP or Buy and Install a PBX? First I want to say I love Yahoo Answers. My last post was answered right away and the response was great. Here is my issue. I've decided I want to use VoIP for my businesses. I've heard nothing but good things and know that I can benefit from the cost savings. Also, I know that hosted VoIP is less expensive than buying an expensive PBX. But I still have some questions. If you could help me out I would appreciate it! 1. How do I know if my Internet connection is fast enough? 2. What is E911? 3. Which phones should I buy? There are a ton of options. I think I just need something basic to middle of the road. 4. What features will i get when i buy the system? What is the best service?
