Xbox360 Xbox live IP address fail?

When i run the test Xbox live test, a red "X" appears between the Xbox 360 and Network icons, and the test status for Network is displayed as "IP Failed." And i made sure the Ethernet cable was plugged into the modem. I've done this before TONS a times with a different modem, could that be the problem? Things you may need to know lol- Wired connection. Comcast ARRIS Touchstone Telephony Modem. High speed Internet The came with Ethernet cable Automatic settings set.

  1. It's a cable modem. Like most cable modems it has a memory that remembers the first device you connected to it. I'm guessing you don't have a router and have connected your PC directly into it to get to the internet. And to connect your Xbox 360 you simply unplugged it from your PC and connected it to your Xbox 360 - cable modems with memory remember your first device (the PC) and will not accept any other devices after that (like your Xbox 360). To get over this, you have to power off your modem (from the wall) for 1 full minute. This will clear it's memory and you can connect your new device (the Xbox 360). You will have to repeat this when you reconnect your PC. Getting a router will solve this problem (if the router is the first device that connects to it). Then all your devices can connect via the router (like both PC and Xbox 360) and they will be served with an internet connection by the router which is served by the modem. == If Comcast have actually saved the MAC address (serial number) of the first device connected back at ther servers, then you'll have to clone your PC's MAC address onto your Xbox 360 (or router) - which basically fools Comcast's servers into thinking it's your PC that's connected and not your Xbox 360 (or router) which actually is. Find out what your NIC's MAC is (go to "Start", "Run", "CMD", "ipconfig/all") Copy down your NIC's "Physical Address". That is the MAC you need.
