How do I "get into" my Cisco phone system?
My Cisco skill set is beginner. I've taken over for an ex-employee "that ain't talking" I can use SDM to get into the phone router, I've set the date/time proper, set a valid NTP server, then I've pretty much left it alone for weeks. The time has come to configure a new handset/add a new user. I have a feeling that part of the phone system administration is done through other software/interface. I'm lost. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks tbshmkr, thanks for telling me things I obviously know. And ex-employees are usually supportive of the friendly co-workers they've left behind if they want to have any contacts in the industry down the road. I didn't fire him, but he's burned a bridge with me down the road. If he ever get's stuck at his new job, he won't be able to call me for help. I was looking for a technical tip, and instead I got your worthless answer. Thank you for nothing. By the way, the correct answer is, while on the same subnet as the phone system, go to http://IP address/telephony_service.html. Now jog on.

- Contact whoever sold the system to your company. = They will either help or point you in the correct direction. - Ex-employees are not expected to be supportive.
- Try telneting to the same IP address that you connect to the SDM server with. EXAMPLE: Start->Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt At the command prompt type: telnet 111.222.111.222 Where 111.222.111.222 is the ip address that you use to connect to the device using the Security Device Manager. This will give you access to the Command Line Interface which gives you complete access to the router. You will not have a GUI interface, only a command line to configure the router.
- I assume by "phone system" you mean a Cisco router running ITS (IOS Telephony Service). The URL you referenced will work if you're just looking for a GUI frontend, although if you're going to maintaining this thing from now on you may also want to read up on Cisco IOS and the command-line configuration options for that telephone system. This would be good reading for you: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk1077/technologies_configuration_example09186a00800ffdcc.shtml
