Toshiba Phone System

i have a laptop that will not connect to internet?

hi, i have a toshiba satellite system laptop that was given to me, it works fine when i turn it on and want to play solitaire ...lol.. but i cannot connect to the internet, i unplugged my desktop and put everything into the laptop, nothing, i even spoke to a broadband tech over the phone and he talked me through it, still would not connect so the tech told me that the laptop itself needs to go to a service tech to find the problem, is this unusaul not being able to connect ? i understand that it was given to me so i dont care if its useless but wanted to try to know more before i actually took it somewhere and spent money, it is a few years old so maybe i'll just give it to some kids to play with, but any ideas or help would be greatlt appreciated, i thank you in advance

  1. First insert ur modem and see if a green arrow apears or not. If yes, then add modem software to use. Then go to my connections .which is on the desktop down from my computer. I hope this'll help u.
  2. go to device manager and see if there are any caution signs...it might just be missing the driver. if there are caution signs you can go to the toshiba site and dowload the drivers which could be ethernet, wireless,or chipset...if there aren't any caution signs and you don't mind losing any info (which you could back up beforehand) then a simple restore may fix it. you can do this by when you have the laptop powered off hold down the 0 key and turn the unit on until it says loading and then when the screen comes up click yes and follow instructions...if this doesn't work it may need a new motherboard. Hope the other ones work for you though! :o)
