doubt about setting up VPN?
I am new to VPN, so these doubt, (following ip address are not real, few numbers changed) a) ISP provided 60.250.52.54 b) local 192.168.74.1 (router) c) server pc 192.168.74.3 d) digital pbx connected to network switch 192.168.74.104 if I want to connect to the pbx when i am outside which IP address I have to register with dyndns.org if it is (a) then how can I connect to (d) and anything to do on router than giving the hostname username and password? can anybody please explain thanks Ami

- As you suspected, you have to access anything on the private side of the router through its ISP provided IP address. If you don't have a static IP address from the ISP, a dynamic DNS service can be used. Also as you suspected, there is some router configuration needed to do this. All routers are different but the steps are essentially the same. You have to configure NAT in the router by first adding the private IP address of the PBX (192.168.74.104) and then specifying the TCP or UDP ports that it uses. This is so that you can specify other ports for other servers such as a web server. EDIT: If you are accessing your network though VPN then you will still enter the router's public IP address as the destination, especially if it is acting as the VPN concentrator. If you have a seperate VPN concentrator inside your network, same thing applies. Use the router's IP address and NAT to it.
