Toshiba Phone System

Should I be able to use a Cisco VG200 w/ 2vic for a regular phone line to IP phone?

Though i don't have a real life PBX as it's unrealistic for home use, nor multiple phone lines, will the voice gateway allow me to use an IP phone/ create other extension to other phones (in theory).. dial 9 our.. get the drift. I can't afford the Cisco CallManager hardware in my dreams but I know there are IOS Command line that can do similar. I'm hoping the VG200 will allow all this without the need for Asterik or even work in conjunction. Though I'd like to go the CCVP way of business... All I want is to hook up a phone line in the VIC on the Voice Gateway then do the proper configs in between (if possible as my question poses) to get a dial-tone on a Cisco IP phone then be using VOIP. Thanks for your help! =) Oh yea, bonus question, are there a Windows version of CallManager or is that pretty much just hardware?

  1. WOW. First off CallManager 4.1 ONLY runs on Windows 2000 server...you cannot just buy a CiscoVG200 analog gateway and plug a phone into it. You won't get dial tone for starters and you won't be able to place calls to an IP phone because the IP phone requires CallManager for dial tone. You could use a router say a 2621XM running call manager express with a VIC-2FXS and plug an analog phone into the FXS port to get dial tone. You would then configure the IP phone in CME and once it registers you would get dialtone. Next you need to configure a dial peer for the FXS port. You would then be able to perform extension to extension dialing between the analog phone and the cisco ip phone. Although good luck getting all this working...you don't seem to know a great deal about cisco VoIP....you should look into PBX in a flash...it has all the features of call manager and you can do what you want using an analog phone and a Cisco IP phone and it's free...you would need to purchase an ATA such as a Linksys SPA-1001...good luck.
