- Mine has a battery backup in case the power goes out, but that is comcast good thinking!
- Depends on if you mean residential or commercial. Residential: Cable modems with integrated phone support usually have 2 batteries built into them (if made in last 2-3 years). The batteries charge up for about 12 hours after initially plugged into wall power. If the power fails, you have between 8 and 12 hours of life available, depending on how much you talk, and what else you're trying to do. One caveat, your system will not work if you have cordless phones, because the phones themselves need wall power to receive the signal from the handset, so keep an old fashioned corded phone available for if the power goes out. Also, considering having a laptop nearby so you don't go into computer withdrawal if the power is out for several hours - this might only affect me. :) Commercial: Simply put, yes. How you set up your network is your business, but generally the ISP can keep the lines powered even in you have no building power. The phones themselves are only pulling 4 volts during a conversation and 40 volts when ringing, so the power required is negligible. That being said, while your data circuit with VOIP integration might still be working, your switches and routers may not be. The limiting factor in this example is the amount of battery backup you have for your devices and relays between the incoming circuit and your punchdowns. Hope that helps, Odd
