Toshiba Phone System

Internation IP Phone?

Hi, Im living in the US and moving to Geneva, Switzerland. I will like to know if theres any company in the US that provides a service of IP phone for people living abroad. Meaning, can I have a US local line/tone in a house in Switzerland for a descent price?. Normally this phones runs over IP and are not expensive. I know Skype provides something similar, but I dont like that system because its computer based. The one Im talkin is like a box connected to the internet on one side, and to the home phone on the other. Thanks for your help Matias

  1. There are actually many VoIP services that do not require a PC. Instead, they use an ATA (analog telephone adapter) that your regular telephone plugs into. Then the ATA plugs into your NAT/Router, or directly into the Modem, depending on which model you get. I use CallCenric and InPhonex as my home phone VoIP services. These are BYOD (bring your own device) services. Which means, I buy my own ATA and configure it myself to connect to their services. These are pay-as-you-go services and no contracts. I use the Linksys PAP2T-NA VoIP adapter behind my Linksys WRT-54G NAT/Router. But, for many people, the Linksys SPA-2102 may be easier to setup. The SPA-2102 is a NAT/Router and ATA in one box. By the way, it is possible to use Skype without a computer. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&cid=1165633354987
  2. I use Globalinx as my provider. Please visit www.digitalphonenow.com There is a monthly fee and a 1year contract. However, you can call 12 countries unlimited (some landlines only) for $24.95 per month. Phone service is becoming a commodity. Shop around and good luck!
