- Nah! But there is a software for finding computers with open ports on the internet. Download the freeware software called "angry ip Scaner"
- No. If there was, everyone on the internet would be receiving phone calls all the time and getting their computer hacked into. An IP address is just a number. You can do a port scan and see if they are running a firewall or not, but that's about it. An IP address isn't some super secret number. Whenever you connect to the internet your IP address is displayed. It has to be in order for others to communicate with you. I could easily get your IP just by having you click a link even.
- An IP address, even with a sophisticated network scanner will only tell you the IP address. IP addresses can be static or dynamic. If they are dynamic they are given to the individual PC's on a LAN network. They won't tell you much. Static IP's are how we actually move outside of our networks onto the Internet or other wide area networks. If you have an IP and you want to see if it means anything, put the IP address into a "whois" service, like this one: http://www.arin.net/whois/ It can tell you if the IP is registered, what network it came from (sort of, over simplifying here) and who owns it (also sort of because some IP addresses will be owned by service providers. You may want to know "who" but all it will tell you is Time Warner). Bottom line, even with VOIP, there's no way that I know of that you'll ever get a phone number from an IP address. In VOIP, the phone numbers are not IP related. Hope that helps.
