Is there a company that does IP based home security systems? Something like ADT over broadband not phone line.?

  1. If you got a VOIP phone line from your cable company, the alarm company will use that line for detection and alerts.
  2. Most alarm panels use regular dial-up telephone lines to send their alarm messages to the monitoring center. So, one way to achieve what you want would be to use some type of VOIP service that provided a "virtual" phone line for the alarm panel. This would fool the panel into thinking that you had a regular phone line and everything should work fine. There are also devices known as "network alarm routers" that use a true IP connection for monitoring. These only work with certain types of alarm panels, usually the more expensive ones designed for commercial use. I would suggest that you contact some the major alarm companies in your area to see what options may be available to you. Silva Consultants
